About HIMA

Founded in 2013, the Harpa International Music Academy, HIMA, is a unique summer music academy held annually in the northernmost capital of the world, focused equally on training and performance. While most of the students come from Iceland, HIMA also draws participants from Europe, Asia and the Americas every year.

In addition to promoting young musicians through performances in Reykjavík’s world-class concert hall, Harpa, HIMA offers an intensive and inspiring summer academy for string students including daily solo lessons and chamber music rehearsals, masterclasses, seminars, social events and concerts.

Our participants, who are of different ages and nationalities, all share the love of music. HIMA unites all of us at this special time of year to enjoy making music and new friends under Iceland’s midnight sun.
